Independent identity, systems & SEO studioRemote, worldwide

From Design systems to System design.

Strategy, identity, design system, and the production code that runs them, with modern SEO built in, so it ranks on Google and gets cited by AI. Carried by one senior lead, so nothing is lost between them.

A brand is not a logo. It is a behavior.

Most brands are built in relay. A strategy deck, an identity studio, a UI team, a dev shop. Every handoff drops a little intent, and by launch the product behaves like none of them.

The usual relayFour vendors, three handoffs

  1. StrategyConsultancyThe reasoning stays in the deck.
  2. IdentityBrand agencyGuidelines get reinterpreted as screens.
  3. Design systemUI studioComponents are rebuilt from pictures of components.
  4. Product & codeDev shopThe launch resembles the deck, loosely.

M/AFZALOne lead, no handoffs

  1. StrategyThe position becomes the brief for everything after it.
  2. IdentityExpression is authored as rules, not only as a look.
  3. Design systemTokens and components are the ones the product ships.
  4. Product & codeProduction is the design system, running.
Same four stages. One accountable lead, so every decision keeps its reason all the way to production.

Systems in the world.

Three live products, each carried from positioning to launch. The numbered notes point at the decisions on the page.

Pommel & Cantle
Discipline
Identity-led commerce

A crafted digital home for heritage leatherwork.

Pommel and Cantle home page: a script wordmark over a dark, wood-panelled tack room hung with monogrammed saddles.
  1. A signature, not a logoA script wordmark sits at the center of the navigation, the way a maker signs the work.
  2. Material firstA tack room of leather and wood sets the price point before a word of copy does.
  3. Identity on the objectThe P&C monogram is stamped on the saddles themselves, so the brand lives on the craft.
  4. Conversation in reachInstagram, email, and WhatsApp stay one tap away, because bespoke orders begin as a conversation.
Challenge
Translate specialist craftsmanship into a premium digital experience without losing its human character.
System
Editorial product storytelling, material-led art direction, and a scalable content structure.
Outcome
A live destination that makes the craft, range, and expertise legible at first glance.

Firmware Lab
Discipline
Technical positioning

Complex engineering, made clear and credible.

Firmware Lab home page: an engineer's name and discipline in large type over a faint oscilloscope trace, with links to projects, the lab, and GitHub.
  1. Who, then whatName first, discipline second. Buyers confirm who they are hiring before they read what the person does.
  2. The stack in plain wordsMCU, RTOS, secure cloud: the three terms a technical buyer scans for, stated in one line.
  3. Texture from the benchA faint signal trace borrows the oscilloscope as brand texture, quiet enough to never compete with the copy.
  4. Every action is proofProjects, the lab, GitHub. Each call to action opens evidence rather than a sales pitch.
Challenge
Make deep embedded-systems expertise understandable to technical buyers without oversimplifying it.
System
A modular capability architecture connecting firmware, RTOS, connectivity, and cloud delivery.
Outcome
A focused live portfolio that turns technical breadth into a clear commercial narrative.

Connected technology

One connected story from hardware to cloud.

ConceptKube home page: the headline Ship your IoT product in 6 months, without hiring 3 different teams, on a deep blue field.
  1. One offerThe navigation carries a single action: a roadmap, not a sales call.
  2. Objections answered firstThree risk reducers sit above the headline, before a doubt has time to form.
  3. A promise with a dateShip in six months. A deadline is a claim a buyer can hold the team to.
  4. The enemy, namedFragmented teams are the buyer's real cost, so the headline names them outright.
Challenge
Unify a broad IoT offer into one credible story for organizations building connected products.
System
A service narrative spanning hardware, infrastructure, applications, and production delivery.
Outcome
A coherent live presence that clarifies the path from concept to deployed ecosystem.

One chain, five links.

Engage for a defining moment or a whole evolution. Each link produces something the next one builds on, so you can start anywhere and nothing gets redrawn.

Found by people, and by the machines they ask.

Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google’s AI Overviews before they visit a single site. A brand system has to be legible to those machines too, so discoverability is built into the same chain, not bolted on after launch.

  1. SEORanked.

Fast, crawlable, semantic pages. Core Web Vitals, clean information architecture, internal linking, and metadata written for real search intent.

  2. GEOCited.

One consistent set of facts about the brand everywhere it appears, structured data, and source-worthy pages a language model can quote with confidence.

  3. AEOAnswered.

Question-shaped content, concise definitions, and FAQ markup, so when an assistant gives one reply, it is yours.

Modern SEO, from the first workshop.

SEO usually arrives after launch, as a plugin and a list of complaints. Here it is part of the chain from day one: the positioning is shaped by what people actually search for, the design system ships fast, semantic components, and a redesign keeps the rankings the old site earned.

  1. 01

    Technical SEO

Crawlability, indexation, rendering, Core Web Vitals, and site architecture, fixed in the code itself rather than patched with plugins.

  2. 02

    Search-led strategy

Keyword and intent research that shapes positioning, naming, and information architecture before a single page is designed.

  3. 03

    Content & topical authority

Page structures, internal linking, and content plans that make the brand the obvious source on its subject.

  4. 04

    Structured data & entities

Schema markup and one consistent set of brand facts, so Google’s Knowledge Graph and language models describe you correctly.

  5. 05

    Redesigns & migrations

Redirect maps, URL continuity, and before-and-after tracking, so a rebrand keeps every ranking the old site earned.

  6. 06

    Measurement

Search Console, Core Web Vitals field data, and AI citation checks, reported as decisions to make, not dashboards to admire.

This page is the proof.

  • Every word is in the HTML itself, readable without JavaScript.
  • Structured data describes the person, the practice, its services, and this FAQ.
  • No analytics or tracking scripts slowing the first paint.

Beyond visibility: LLMs inside the product.

Retrieval over your own content, structured outputs, and AI-assisted workflows, designed with the same system rules as the rest of the brand, so the AI parts of a product look, sound, and behave like the product.

Straight answers

What does M/AFZAL do?
M/AFZAL is the independent practice of Muhammad Afzal. It takes a brand from positioning and identity through a design system to the production website or product, and makes that work findable in search engines and AI answer engines.
What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?
Generative engine optimization is the work of making a brand’s pages clear, consistent, and credible enough that AI systems such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews cite them when they generate an answer.
How is answer engine optimization (AEO) different from SEO?
SEO earns a position in a list of results. Answer engine optimization earns the single answer: content is shaped as direct questions and concise answers, backed by structured data, so an assistant or featured snippet can quote it.
What does modern SEO include?
Technical SEO, search-led content and information architecture, structured data, and visibility in AI answer engines. Modern SEO treats Google’s results, AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity as one discovery surface, and builds the site so all of them can find, understand, and cite it.
Will a rebrand or redesign hurt our search rankings?
It can, when URLs, content, and structured data are rebuilt without a migration plan. A redesign here ships with a redirect map, preserved URLs wherever possible, and before-and-after tracking in Google Search Console, so the new brand keeps the rankings the old site earned.
Do you build LLM features into products?
Yes. Retrieval over your own content, structured outputs, and AI-assisted workflows, built on the same design system and engineering standards as the rest of the product.
Who do you work with, and where?
Founders, executive teams, and established businesses, remotely, across the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and wider Europe.

The work is not complete when it looks distinctive. It is complete when the organization can use it coherently, confidently, and repeatedly.
